Nantucket
Yesterday's crazy last minute shoot on the island of Nantucket filming two remote interviews for PBS's FRONTLINE. There and back the same day!

There was no way we were going to be able to get my van on the ferry right before the July 4th holiday weekend, so I had to pare down what I would usually bring for such a shoot. I brought the minimum to make pretty pictures, deal with the numerous windows, AND fit it all in the cargo hatch of the passenger ferry.
I accounted it high time I get to sea…
I've been reading Moby Dick this summer. I keep encountering coincidences with it, like this trip to Nantucket where the Pequod sailed from at the beginning of the book. I brought my copy along, even though I knew there would be no time to read it (let alone eat lunch). So, in a way, the Pequod made it home, at least for a visit.
You can see FRONTLINE's updated film, Putin's Crisis, starting July 11th on your local PBS stations, and online.
NH Primary
Spent some time in Manchester, NH for the Presidential Primary. Shot various events around town in the lead up, then shot live anchor hits for the PBS News Hour on primary night.

Mother Anna's restaurant let us use their pattio and gave us some tortellini to try! Nom nom nom...
They claim to be the oldest Italian restaurant in the North End, and the 2nd oldest Italian restaurant in Boston. Their food was yummy, so I'm not surprised! :)
AI
At the AI (Artificial Intelligence) World Conference & Expo at the World Trade Center here in Boston.
Two camera interviews at the AI (Artificial Intelligence) World Conference & Expo at the World Trade Center here in Boston. There was plenty of real intelligence on display, too. Pretty interesting stuff.
Matter of Fact
Shooting for Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien, a news magazine show shown on Hearst stations around the country.
I had a great crew shooting for Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien, a news magazine show shown on Hearst stations (like WCVB Channel 5) around the country.
This was my second story for them. I hope I get to do more, especially if there are dogs involved! ;-)
Corn Syrup Earth
A piece I did for Bell Media on corn syrup and its impact on our lives was just posted to their website.

SNOWpocalypse 2018
Shot the big storm with Chris Pollone for NBC News. The storm surge almost reached the van at one point!
Great shot Chris Pollone took of me and Alycia Spiropoulos Savvides and the snow.

Protests on Boston Common
We shot some video of the protests on Boston Common for ARD, a major German news network, did some interviews fed them, and then did a live shot.
Another successful day of making TV.

☺☕👍
Virtual Reality on a Social Scale
Had a great time shooting for Bloomberg TV at MindTrek VR's new virtual reality arena, located outside Boston.

From March 2017, how I used to have to set up lights for a two-camera interview, using heavier fluorescent lights
Bloomberg TV is sponsoring Boston's July 4th fireworks for the next three years.
I've been shooting a series of packages for Bloomberg TV for the 4th of July. The working title is "Love Letters to Boston." This one was shot at the Massachusetts Historical Society.
They will be shown on the Esplanade during the commercial breaks during the July 4th concert. They will also eventually be broadcast worldwide, and on the Web. We've done ones on education, medicine and medical technology. Now we're working on one about the history of sports and the fans in Boston.
I've also been wanting to show off my new Intellytech FL-80 LED flex lights. They're the same size as the inside of my four bank fluorescent lights. However, they're just a piece of material with the LEDs attached, held up by a spring frame. They're so light weight that I just need aluminum boom stands to fly them for two camera interviews. They're also bicolor so, no more changing bulbs! They are a little fiddly to put together, but I like that they're much smaller, lighter, and safer to work with than my the fluorescent lights I was using before.
IBM's Watson Taking on Cybersecurity and Health
I got to see Watson in action at IBM's security and health units while shooting for Bloomberg TV.
Snowmageddon 2017
So much for staying warm at home and watching reruns! I did live shots for NBC News Channel in the blizzard from wonderful Worcester, Massachusetts for two days.

The NBC Nightly News team practicing with their drone for their 2 camera live shot-o-rama for tonight's show. If you look carefully at the garage door, to the left of the shrub, you'll see the white DGI drone. Look for its red lights:

We interviewed Mark "Marky Mark" Whalberg, Red Sox slugger David "Big Papi" Ortiz, director Peter Berg, and many others! Glamorous!
You'll be able to watch the segment online at Spielon Entertainment soon.
Sometimes you have to improvise a shot.
The always important selfie!
Send in the drones...
A package I shot for Bloomberg on the use of drones for surveillance. The drone to drone footage was provided by the company, and there is a smattering of file footage of other corporations.

Busy Week!
Normally, August is pretty slow in the Boston area, but I was kept pretty busy this week.
Normally, August is pretty slow in the Boston area, but I was kept pretty busy this week.
Here I was shooting the Total Store Expo on the 7th.
On the 8th, I was waiting for Steven Tyler to appear. Did we maybe need a little more fog? His new album is country-western(!), and we got to see a sneak preview!
At Welsh's, on the 9th, I got to use my cool Edelkrone SliderPlus to shoot a new kind of product they’re making to be featured on Innovations, a Discovery Channel show. We also shot some interviews.
On the 10th, I shot a professor from Northeastern University for a story about the history of presidential debates to be featured on the New York Times' Retro Report. I’ve worked on several films for them. The rainy day clouds made for a nice, soft key light.
And on the 11th, I had fun with green screens at the Fix Your Funnel convention at the BCEC. I was very glad to be shooting inside of an overly air-conditioned convention center on a day when the heat index was over 100 degrees F outside!
I'm very happy to be heading to Martha's Vineyard for the weekend. ;-)
