Kelvin
Green screen shoots with monitors pose their own special challenges.
DPing a green screen studio shoot. A discussion by two doctors for a pharmaceutical company.
Green screen shoots with monitors pose their own special challenges.
Most monitors are ~6500-7000 Kelvin. For this shoot, I saw them as big blue light sources that I was going to have to deal with on the set. Thanks to modern technology (LEDs), it was easy to light the set for day light (5600 K) to compensate for the blue glow of the monitors. If any of their light did reach the subjects, it would hardly be noticeable.
Sometimes when you're using tungsten lights on a set, and someone brings their laptop on the set, you can see a blue glow on them. In that case I try to turn the brightness down as far as they can tolerate, and put some CTO gel on the monitor where / if the cameras won't see it. I've also done that with telepromters if they're too close (put a CTO gel on it to counteract its blue light on their faces).
This is all, of course, fun for me.

Two camera interviews at the AI (Artificial Intelligence) World Conference & Expo at the World Trade Center here in Boston. There was plenty of real intelligence on display, too. Pretty interesting stuff.
Paws for a Cure
It’s rare that I get to shoot symposiums with dogs in attendance. It was a good day.
Now this is my kind of event!
Apparently, the cancers that kids and dogs develop are often very similar. The Paws for a Cure Research Symposium, co-hosted by Canines-n-Kids & Merck, was held for experts to discuss the challenges and progress in researching this connection.

Kendall Square
It’s always fun to see inside one of these cool new buildings.
Kendall Square used to be industrial and kind of empty, with few restaurants and not much going on at night.
Now it’s all cool and modern with great restaurants and all these new buildings. It’s always fun to see inside one of the buildings.
This was a shoot at a pharmaceutical firm. The colors are great.

Obesity
Shooting for a documentary about the world's fattest man (the man in the middle used to weigh about 980 pounds).
I just finished two more days of shooting for a documentary about the world's fattest man (the man in the middle used to weigh about 980 pounds).
I'm going to eat celery for the rest of the year now. :O
It will be seen on the Reelz Channel in the US and I think Netflix.
Matter of Fact
Shooting for Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien, a news magazine show shown on Hearst stations around the country.
I had a great crew shooting for Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien, a news magazine show shown on Hearst stations (like WCVB Channel 5) around the country.
This was my second story for them. I hope I get to do more, especially if there are dogs involved! ;-)
South Station
DP'ing for William J Arbuckle as part of an internet add campaign for Head and Shoulders called "Hire Brandon."
Fun time shooting in South Station with William J Arbuckle!
I was DP'ing part of an internet add campaign for Head and Shoulders called "Hire Brandon." Brandon in a young man who just graduated college. He wants to be a lawyer.
They gave him a makeover in NYC (including Head & Shoulders for fabulous hair and no dandruff). They have been putting him on billboards and all kinds of other media.
We filmed a street team handing out stickers and resumes for him at Fenway Park and South Station. He was also out there meeting people.
In these shots, he was being interviewed by several people (not all at once). It was a crazy but fun shoot.

Me & Tom
Screengrab by BJ Holtgrewe
Apparently, this was on the homepage of the WBZ website this morning. That's right, me and Tom Brady in the Duckboat parade, back in the day. I guess we're iconic.
Thanks to BJ Holtgrewe for the screen grab!
Zoom!
My 8x20 B4 4x3 ENG lens for a 2/3" sensor, combined with my EX3's 1/2" sensor, gave me quite a lot of zoom for this shoot at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
